The fact it’s pretty well equipped makes it even better too. Turns out Honda cares more for enthusiasts than I thought.

The accord has always been the sleeper sedan for the enthusiast who needs a full size sedan.

I haven’t driven one of those, but I have driven my friends stock 2012 Civic Si and it is quite a nice car to drive.

My dad picked up a Touring earlier this year. His is sadly the 1.5/CVT combo. This is the one combo I would buy, especially after driving the 2.0, it boogies.

And at one time the coupe was the last real muscle car ? I want what he was smoking lol. Even so the coupe was a car that could surprise a bunch of people. Especially if it was a manual, j ust had to look for that Red V6 badge (on 7th gen at least)

T his is the first time since 94 they have put a manual with the top level trim sedan, so it its pretty cool for Honda to do that in the age of dying sedans. A true sleeper even without boost tunes.

I have a feeling in the coming years when someone ask for a fun daily, this will be at the top of oppo and jalop list.

2-3 generations ago (pre-2003 or so?) it was pretty milquetoast. Totally average, slower and less fun than Altima, Passat, or Maxima. But they were better than Camry, which was all Honda cared about at the time. Thankfully they’ve gotten wiser...in some respects.

This one appears to be a home run in a minor-league ballpark with 50% attendance.

I think the Accord has always been deserving of respect, in all its iterations.  It’s a really good car that would serve anybody well. It’s never inspired lustful feelings in me, but that’s beside the point.

The Turbo 2.0T with the 10 speed is a gem of a combination, assume the manual would be only more fun. Also this generation handles wayy more flat than previous ones. Seriously quick.

The 2012 was by far the worst year of Civic. They were built poorly and drove terribly and were so ugl y and ba d that Honda urgently facelifted it and mechanically overhauled it barely a  year later. I think you'd very much appreciate the newer Civic Si better over the one you drove.

I need one in blue, 258hp 2.0T, manual, all the necessary/convenient options and I’d drive the shit out of it and have it forever. I always look for them in the lot when I go to the Honda dealer with my dad

Not true. You could get a 6-speed manual V6 in the top-spec EX-L sedan i n ‘06 and ‘07. I’ve got one. Rare birds, though, accounting for ~5,400 out of ~750,000 total Accord sales those two years. Six-speed coupes and I4 5-speed sedans were somewhat more common.

All you have to do to make that criteria work for the Accord is to remove cars not made in the US. A lot of those no longer qualify due to parts and labour outsourcing as soon as you do that.

I see a lot of “Made in America”-style stickers where I live and they don’t realize that more than half of their Ford comes from Mexico or Canada or some other country.

Honda owns at least 3 assembly plants in the US and they make the Hondas  that the US buys.

An former neighbor worked at a local GM plant. If you had a “domestic” car you could park in the front lot even if it was made in Canada, Mexico or Korea, but if you had a furrin car, like a VW, Toyota, Honda or Subaru that was made in the US, you had to park in the back lot. That kind of sh it needs to stop IMHO.

I’ve got a friend whose wife, for reasons unknown, was absolutely against him buying an Accord. He bought a Passat instead. She, of course, went out and bought a BMW when she was promoted...

But then, that’s the profile of most 3 series drivers.

It’s true. Yes, the 3.0 liter. You can spot them by the V6 badge on the trunk, which is colored in red on the manuals (and you can spot the V6 by the dual exhaust). Excellent drivetrain in a very solid package. There seem to be half a dozen or so for sale at any given time. Good ones still command a premium price despite their age.

How did you know it was a 3-series? She got promoted to captain at her airline and decided to upgrade from her Scion. At least she bought the Bimmer used, although I don't think we really need AWD in STL, but as a new mother I think she went safety paranoid. At least she didn't get a gargantuan SUV...

I said that about the badge in an earlier post ... but I thought it was coupe only for 7th gen. And yeah dual exhaust/2 tail pipes (as the 5th gen had 1 muffler but 2 tail pipes coming out of it )   was a way to tell starting with the 5th gen v6.

I am going to have to do some more digging on this.... lol

You’re right, I stereotyped her. The standard meme is to get the entry level beemer when you get a promotion.

STL weather can get pretty bad, not that you can’t negotiate it without AWD.  I guess it’s justifiable.

Kinja'd!!!1

The stereotype is justified.

I’ve been here in STL for seven years now, and to be honest, the weather for the last five years hasn’t been bad at all, this coming from someone who never drove in the snow before. The first couple of years I was here the wint ers were bad, but nothing that couldn’t be easily negotiated with care and caution. For those rare situations where we do get bad weather I don't think the cost and weight are worth it, but that's just me.

No, I feel the same. I went to school in the Finger Lakes region of NY where winter can get pretty fierce. I’ve never worried about snow. At the same time, I know a lot of people feel better knowing they have AWD underneath them, just in case, and if that piece of mind is worth the extra expense and mpg hit to them , I won’t judge.

I reserve my scorn for those who think having AWD gives them more margin to do stupid shit, thinking their car will bail them out. No technology is a substitute for smart driving.

I remember a story from back in the ‘80s when Audi was selling a lot of AWD cars. The drivers of said cars would be wildly overoptimistic about the capabilities of their expensive luxury cars and would go falling off the roads when the first bad weather hit. To tow truck drivers in the Denver/Aspen area this  was known as ‘Audi Duty Time’...
